Teaching Isn’t Easy
A podcast for new educators (and educators wanting a reset).
Helping you grow your teaching CORE.
The CORE Framework
Teaching is complex. In other words, teaching is not easy, and becoming an effective educator takes time, effort, and experience. Teachers grow through practice, reflection, and intentional improvement in the areas that shape their daily work. The CORE Framework focuses on four central domains of teaching that are essential to this work: Classroom Practice, Organization and Workflow, Relationships, and Educational Technology and Innovation. By strengthening these areas over time, educators build the knowledge, confidence, and habits needed to succeed and thrive in the classroom.
The framework is influenced by research on teacher knowledge and professional learning. Shulman (1987) showed that effective teaching requires integrating content knowledge, instructional practice, and an understanding of learners. Grossman (1990) emphasized how teacher knowledge develops through practice and experience. The technology component of CORE is informed by the TPACK framework developed by Mishra and Koehler (2006). The idea that teachers grow through reflection draws from Schön’s (1983) work on reflective practice.
Taken together, this research and the experience of classroom teaching suggest that educators grow strongest when they focus on the core parts of their daily work. The CORE Framework provides a structure for that growth. This focus on strengthening the core parts of teaching is what guides the Teaching Isn’t Easy podcast. The podcast is designed to help teachers, especially new educators, grow their CORE through reflection, practical tools, and honest conversations about classroom practice.
